Game 1 in the Books!
Last Saturday, heavy overnight rains yielded to a bone-dry, well-drained field #1 and the games went down without a hitch. It was refreshing to go to bed on Friday night, and not have to set an alarm for the middle of the night to go out and check the field for flooding in order to decide if we’d have to cancel or not. Confidence level was high that the field’s builders could deliver on their promise to deliver a state-of-the-art athletic surface, and the city’s Public Works guys had that place looking like a golf course…again (hat’s off to them; they always deliver in spades).
The days of waking up at 6am to head out into the darkness with a flashlight to check the fields for flooding are over!
The days of waking up at 6am to head out into the darkness with a flashlight to check the fields for flooding are over! We have the dogged determination and persistence of Michelle May and her staff at the Recreation Department for getting all the moving pieces together to make it happen; and the generosity of the city to accept the proposals and fund the project.
Thus, a new chapter in Walker Recreation soccer begins.
Game #2: Saturday, April 26, 2025
The weather for this week won’t exactly put the new field’s drains to the test, but with this week’s warmth and those Spring rains, I’m excited to see how nicely all these fields will green up for us. Expect sunny and mild temperatures to deliver another perfect day for soccer. Enjoy!
